OSWEGO, NY. – The Lakers hit the road this Thursday to take on the defending SUNYAC Champions, the New Paltz Hawks.
THE BASICS
Final Score
Oswego 4 (12-7, 4-3 SUNYAC)
New Paltz 5 (15-7, 6-10AMCC)
Loren Campbell Memorial Field, SUNY New Paltz
HOW IT HAPPENED
Oswego took an early lead with two runs in the third inning, thanks to aggressive baserunning and a sacrifice fly from M. Carner. However, New Paltz responded with a run in the bottom of the inning, capitalizing on an Oswego fielding error.
After a back-and-forth battle, Oswego regained a slim 4-3 advantage in the sixth inning, scoring on a passed ball. But in the bottom of the seventh, New Paltz's D. Ristano launched a two-run homer, putting the Hawks ahead 5-4. That lead was held, thanks to the bullpen performance from New Paltz who combined for 3.2 innings of shutout relief.
Oswego's S. Dertinger took the loss, surrendering two runs in three innings of work. D. Wincheste led the Lakers' offense, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
Despite late-inning opportunities, Oswego was unable to push across the tying run, as a ninth-inning double play sealed the victory for New Paltz.
