Lakers Defeat Bridgewater State, Plagued by Errors in Second Loss to Concordia

OSWEGO, NY – The SUNY Oswego Baseball team was in action in the first round of the NCAA Tournament after earning an at-large bid. The Lakers are in Bridgwater Massachusetts for a regional tournament with Concordia (TX), Endicott College, and Bridgewater State University. After suffering a walk off loss in game 1, the Lakers rebounded in game two taking down the host, Bridgewater State to once again face Concordia of Texas.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 3
Jacob Sanders was outstanding on the mound for the Lakers. He threw 8 complete innings allowing just three hits, no runs and striking out 6 with only 1 walk. This brought his record to 8-1 for the season. Grant Biderman came in to close out the Bears with a scoreless and hitless inning of his own in the 9th.

The Lakers scored in each of the first four innings to gain a commanding lead over Bridgewater State. Six different Lakers drove in runs and combined for 16 total hits against the Bears. Oswego struck out just twice in the game and walked 8 times. McGowan, Featherstone, Rosenberg, and May all had multiple hits in the dominant win.

Game 5
For the second game of the day, the Lakers once again took on the Concordia Tornados of Texas.

The Tornados struck first in the bottom of the second when an infield throwing error by the Lakers sent home a run. However, in the top of the third, the back-to-back singles from May and McGowan put a runner in scoring position for Emil Sander who delivered with an RBI single to tie the game at 1.

Nick Cody got the start for Oswego and delivered 4 complete innings allowing just 2 hits and 1 run, He was relieved by Alek Conrad.

In the bottom of the fifth, Concordia scored once again after an error by the Lakers for a 2-1 lead after 5 innings.

The bats came alive for the Lakers in the top of the 6th. McGowan walked, Sander and Featherstone singled for the first run of the inning. After a Winchester walk, Concordia changed pitchers to the same reliever from the previous match up. TJ Harrington doubled to left center to score two more for Oswego and give them a 5-2 lead. In the 7th the Lakers added one more run but Concordia began to claw their way back with a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning.

Mason Sands came on to relieve Conrad and held the Tornados at bay the best he could. Defensively, the Lakers made two more errors in the field, allowing Concordia to score two more runs making the score 7-6.

After the Lakers couldn't score in the top of the ninth, Owen Hoyt came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth. Hoyt worked two ground balls from the first two hitters, unfortunately another infield error allowed the second batter to reach. With two men on, Concordia once again hit a walk off home run to defeat the Lakers, 9-7.

WHAT'S NEXT
This completes the season for the Oswego Lakers baseball team who finished with an overall record of 29-14.
