ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Facing one of the toughest opponents on their schedule, the Oswego State field hockey team took on #23 Rochester in Friday's matchup, ultimately dropping a 4–0 decision at Fauver Stadium.
THE BASICS
Final Score:
Oswego 0 (1-6, 0-0 SUNYAC)
Rochester 4 (8-1, 0-0 Liberty)
Location: Edwin Fauver Stadium | Rochester, N.Y.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Yellowjackets, came out firing and scored less than a minute into the game before adding a second late in the first quarter. From there, Oswego goalkeeper
Sam Krautheim stole the show, finishing with 19 saves while keeping the Lakers within reach. Her busiest stretch came in the second quarter, when she turned aside nine shots to hold Rochester scoreless heading into halftime.
Rochester finally broke through again midway through the third, and a late fourth-quarter tally sealed the game. Oswego, meanwhile, never found its footing offensively, unable to register a shot against a relentless Yellowjacket press.
Still, the Lakers had bright spots. Veterans
Heather Dent and
Julia Alvey logged heavy minutes on the back line, while midfielders like
Addyson Carrier and
Julia Unger worked hard to break up passing lanes. Fresh legs from
Sophia Prianti,
Camila Gallego, and others gave Oswego defensive stability, even as the Yellowjackets piled up 26 penalty corners.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Lakers will have the week off before returning home to face their first SUNYAC opponent of the season on Saturday September 27
th when New Paltz comes to town.
