HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
Plattsburgh jumped out to a quick lead at the hands of Kathy Peterson-Ross and a good three by her.
Sydney Hoefs responded with three of her own. Oswego battled back to square up the game at nine. The Cardinals then went on a 8-2 run after efficient offense and shot making. Oswego fell into a deficit and wasn't able to pull themselves back out. Maddison Guillory had three points of her own to try to get Oswego back in this one but ultimately quarter one ended 28 for Plattsburgh and 16 for Oswego.
The second period kicked off with a Cardinal basket followed by the first two points from
Giavanna White-Principio.
Zhane Holmes started to catch fire as she had seven straight Oswego points. Although Holmes was on a heater, Plattsburgh kept the butter churning as their offense didn't slow down. Plattsburgh led by 12. Guillory got a pair of free throws to go but the Cardinals kept responding as Meredith Bush and Julia Greek got a three to go to extend the Cardinal lead to 19. Hoefs answered the call nicely as she hit a triple of her own right before the first half horn went off.Â
Zhane Holmes went to the locker room but did not lose her hot hand coming into the third period. She hit yet another jumper which then was followed by a
Sarah Hirschler finish at the rim. Oswego's offense had something going but Plattsburgh continued to match every bucket. Scoring went dry for a bit, but
Giavanna White-Principio turned on the gas as she found another basket. Two free throws from Hoefs and the Lakers had life. Plattsburgh kept their offense going but Oswego was starting to make more shots as White-Principio hit a jumper as well as another tough finish for Hirschler. Oswego still down 17 but did find some offense that worked in the third.Â
Â
Bri Weaver started the fourth with a pull-up which was followed by a White-Principio two. Hirschler attacked the rim for two again and Oswego had some momentum on their side only down by 14. Plattsburgh responded nicely with a Greek jumper, but
Bri Weaver snatched those two points back. Although Oswego found some answers on offense, Plattsburgh was finding answers too. The late fourth favored Oswego as White-Principio had three and
Bri Weaver had eight. Weaver added a nice spark off the bench, but it wasn't enough to come back. Plattsburgh prevailed, winning the game 76-64.
