Lakers Tie Canton 1-1 on Senior Day

Oswego, N.Y. – A late-game goal by the Canton Kangaroos forced a 1-1 tie between them and the Oswego State Lakers on senior day at Laker Turf.

The Basics
Oswego State: 1 (3-6-3, 1-3-2 SUNYAC)
SUNY Canton: 1 (1-11-3, 0-4-2 SUNYAC)
Laker Turf | Oswego, NY

How it Happened

After 30 minutes of physical, back-and-forth action, Simon Bastone maneuvered around a Canton defender to create a fast-break opportunity, giving the Lakers their best chance to get on the board in the first half. However, his shot sailed over the crossbar. Oswego would earn a couple of free kicks, but the Lakers were unable to capitalize.

Just four minutes into the second half, the Lakers created another phenomenal scoring opportunity with a series of quick passes that found Bastone in front of the net for a one-timer. Once again, however, Canton goalkeeper Jason Vela came up with a leaping save to keep the game scoreless.

Two minutes later, Aiden Lawrence capitalized on a broken play in the slot, ripping a shot into the back of the net to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead. It marked the second consecutive game in which Oswego scored the opening goal.

As the Lakers dominated possession in the second half, generating shot after shot and earning corner kick after corner kick, Canton delivered a heartbreaking equalizer with just six minutes remaining. A long pass sent the ball downfield, allowing Markel Mosley to break away from midfield and get behind the Oswego defense before firing it into the back of the net to even the score at 1-1. Canton and Oswego would be deadlocked the rest of the way, resulting in a tie, Oswego's third of the year.
