Women's Soccer SUNYAC Second Round Preview: Oswego at Oneonta 10.31.2026

SUNYAC WOMEN'S SOCCER TOURNAMENT SECOND ROUND
#5 OSWEGO LAKERS AT #4 ONEONTA RED DRAGONS

Saturday, October 31st, 2026 – 2:00 p.m.
Red Dragon Field – Oneonta, NY

The Matchup… The Fifth Seeded Oswego State Lakers head on the road to face off against the fourth seeded Oneonta Red Dragons in the second round of the SUNYAC Tournament this Saturday.

This will be the 44th matchup between Oneonta and Oswego all time since they began playing one another in 1985. Oneonta holds the advantage, as the Lakers are 9-31-3 against them in the program's history. Oswego is still searching for their first outright SUNYAC title in program history, despite making the SUNYAC Championship game six times, most recently in 2016. Oswego has won a SUNYAC regular season, this coming back in 1991, where they were West Division Co-Champions.

The Last Matchup… Oneonta and Oswego did not play one another this season, however last season they battled hard to a 0-0 draw in Oneonta, NY. The 0-0 draw saw the Lakers outshoot the Red Dragons 14-6, and were awarded 8 corners to Oneonta's 2. Despite this, Oneonta's goalkeeper made eight saves to hold Oswego scoreless in the game. Kyla Sustad was particularly dangerous in this game, recording 5 shots on target, where she will undoubtedly be a key player for the Lakers in this matchup as well.

The Lakers at a glance… At 6-7-3 overall (3-2-3 SUNYAC), the Lakers enter the second round of the SUNYAC Tournament on a high note, winners of their last two games, and having not dropped a game since October 10th. In that stretch, the Lakers are 4-0-1, finding their stride offensively and defensively. The Lakers advanced past SUNY Potsdam in the first round of the SUNYAC tournament on October 28th, defeating the Bears 5-1 with an offensive explosion.

Leading the lines for the Lakers are a pair of prolific forwards in Sabrina Schmitt (Wappinger Falls, NY Roy C Ketcham High School) and Kyla Sustad (Willet, NY Cincinnatus High School). The pair combine for 11 goals and 3 assists, as well as over 80 shots on goal between the two on the year.

Anchoring the midfield is a combination of players, led by standout Solange Catano-Matip (Fulton, NY G Ray Bodley High School), recording 4 goals and 8 assists on the season, controlling possession for Oswego.

In defense, the Lakers are led by Kaile Wilcher (Watertown, NY Watertown High School), Emily Rath (Liverpool, NY Liverpool High School), and Grace Clary (Fulton, NY Fulton High School), whose consistent excellent play has held opponents to just 1.81 goals per game, surrendering just 2 goals in their last 5 games combined.
