HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lakers' offense was spearheaded by a relentless performance from
Zhane Holmes, who poured in a game-high 23 points while contributing eight rebounds, five assists, and four steals
. Sarah Hirschler provided the perimeter spark, hitting 5-of-6 attempts from beyond the arc to finish with 17 points. Down low, Giavanna White-Principio was a force, hauling in a staggering 17 rebounds to go along with 12 points and two blocks, ensuring the Lakers controlled the interior for much of the night.
Oswego established an early defensive tone, holding Fredonia to just eight points in the opening quarter. Hirschler's hot hand from deep helped the Lakers build momentum, but the Blue Devils slowly chipped away at the lead throughout the second half. The fourth quarter turned into a back-and-forth battle, culminating in a dramatic buzzer-beating three-pointer by Fredonia's Grace Alexander that tied the game at 64-64 and stunned the home crowd.
In the overtime period, the Lakers regained their composure after falling behind early
. Sydney Hoefs came up massive in the final minute, driving for a go-ahead layup and converting the ensuing free throw to give Oswego a 71-67 lead with 22 seconds remaining. A final steal by Holmes in the closing seconds effectively iced the game, capping off a night where Oswego's 20 second-chance points and 23 points off turnovers proved to be the ultimate difference.
