HOW IT HAPPENED
Oswego came out poised and confident, controlling much of the opening quarter. The Lakers knocked down a pair of early threes and took a 14-12 lead into the second behind strong play from
Sarah Hirschler and
Bri Weaver. Hirschler set the tone offensively, finishing with a game-high 17 points while adding eight rebounds. Weaver chipped in nine points and provided a spark off the bench.
The second quarter proved pivotal. After trading baskets early, Plattsburgh used a late surge to take a 26-20 advantage into halftime. Despite quality defensive possessions, Oswego struggled to find consistency on the offensive end, shooting just 20.5 percent from the field for the game.
The Lakers responded with resilience in the third quarter. Down 30-24 midway through the period, Oswego mounted a 9-0 run fueled by back-to-back three-pointers from Hirschler and Weaver. When Weaver drilled a triple at the 1:15 mark, the Lakers reclaimed a 33-30 lead, and Oswego carried a 33-30 advantage into the fourth.
In the final frame, the game tightened into a possession-by-possession battle. A Hirschler three-pointer with 4:47 remaining gave Oswego a 38-37 edge, but the Cardinals answered with an 11-0 run over the final three minutes. Plattsburgh capitalized in transition and at the free throw line down the stretch to secure the victory.
