HOW IT HAPPENED
The contest remained scoreless through the first ten minutes as both defenses stood tall
. Cortland finally broke the deadlock at the 10:58 mark of the first period when Genevieve Sbrocca found the back of the net. The Red Dragons doubled their lead midway through the second period on a goal from Fanny Aneborn, which would eventually prove to be the game-winner.
Refusing to go away, the Lakers intensified their pressure in the third period, outshooting Cortland 10-2 in the final twenty minutes
. The persistence paid off at 9:46 of the third when Tilly Pethrick scored her third goal of the season, assisted by Brittany Iversen, to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Oswego earned a late power-play opportunity with just under six minutes remaining, but Cortland's Eline Gillodes made several key stops to preserve the lead
. In a final effort to tie the game, the Lakers pulled goalkeeper Mia Devivo for an extra attacker with 1:10 remaining. Despite late shots from Meagan Smith and Lauren Riccobelli, the Lakers could not find the equalizer before the final horn.
