HOW IT HAPPENED

The SUNYAC Championship was bound to bring energy right out of the gate and that it did. Both teams were ultra-aggressive and firing shots like it was nobody's business. In the 5th minute, Tamas Toth went coast to coast, wrapped around the goal and found a centering pass to Hobart's Dominic Schimizzi for the goal. The Statesmen led 1-0 in the first five minutes. Hobart would stay in their O-zone for the time being firing off 8 shots before Oswego got one shot off. Oswego found themselves on the penalty kill and played it well allowing 0 shots to be recorded on the power play. In the final minutes, there was a double penalty, but nothing came out of the 4-on-4. The period ended in favor of Hobart leading by one.

Oswego, down one, was pushing for a goal and brought the energy in the second. Seven shots went at Damon Beaver in just four minutes, but Beaver let none through. The Lakers had another chance late in the second. Josh Doolan got called for hooking and Oswego had a chance to tie this game at one. The Lakers would end up only getting one shot on goal during the advantage and the power play and period would come to an end. Hobart still led 1-0 with only twenty minutes remaining in the championship bout.

Early in the third, Schimizzi found his second goal of the game. The feed came from Josh Doolan and the Statesmen got the insurance they needed as they led 2-0. Brandon Cohen got called for hooking a few minutes later and Hobart was on another power play. This time they capitalized adding another goal. Hobart's Tanner Daniels went unassisted and the lead was 3-0.

Right after the goal, Oswego would get a power play of their own. Oswego pushed the Statesmen defense for all 5 minutes but were not able to find the back of the net. Minutes later, Tamas Toth scored when the Lakers pulled the goalie for the extra man, with the assist coming from Doolan and Schimizzi.

In goal for the Lakers, Michael Manzi came up with 33 saves. His second highest total this season.

For the Lakers, Drake Semrad and Brandon Cohen were named to the All-Tournament Team.
