Oswego, NY – Oswego's postseason run came to an end on Tuesday afternoon, as the Lakers were swept 4-0 by Alfred in the opening round of the Empire 8 Tournament in Olean, N.Y.
Basics
Empire 8 Tournament
Oswego: 0 (3-8, 3-5 Empire 8)
Alfred: 4 (13-5, 6-2 Empire 8)
Olean, NY
How it Happened
The Saxons seized early control by taking the doubles point, putting Oswego immediately on the back foot. At first doubles, the pairing of
Cole Lyons and
Tyler Yhun battled but fell 6-3, while
Colin Byer and
Zach Triantafillou dropped a 6-1 decision at second doubles to clinch the point for Alfred. Third doubles was left unfinished with Miguel Garcia and
Connor Tutor holding a narrow 5-2 edge when play was halted.
In singles play, Oswego struggled to find momentum against a deep Alfred lineup. Byer was defeated in straight sets at second singles, while Garcia and Yhun also fell in straight sets at the third and fourth spots, respectively, as Alfred secured the three additional points needed to close out the match.
Lyons showed flashes of resilience at the top singles position before his match went unfinished, and the lower half of the lineup—including
Cole Fleming and
Duncan Baker—did not get the opportunity to fully complete their contests as the match was clinched.
