Leone Named to New York State Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2027

Oswego, NY – SUNY Oswego men's basketball coach Jason Leone has been selected for induction into the New York State Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2027.

Now in his 14th season leading the SUNY Oswego Athletics men's basketball program, Leone has guided the Lakers to a 302-98 overall record — the most wins in any 14-year stretch in program history. Under his leadership, Oswego has won six SUNYAC Tournament championships, six regular season conference titles, and made nine NCAA Division III Tournament appearances, including three Sweet 16 trips and an Elite Eight appearance in 2023.

Over the past five seasons, the Lakers have compiled a 121-23 record, ranking among the top programs in Division III basketball. Leone currently ranks fourth nationally among active Division III coaches in winning percentage and first in region 3 among active coaches with at least 10 years of experience.

"First off, I'd like to thank Rene LeRoux and his organization for this recognition. Coaching at Oswego State and raising my family where I grew up in Central New York has been Camelot. I thank my wife, Amber, and my daughters Sophia and Gianna who have made so many sacrifices to allow me to live out my passion of coaching college basketball. In addition, the only reason that I have been recognized is because of my extended family, assistant coaches, players, mentors, and administrators, past and present. I am grateful to be able to share this with them. They have been the backbone of our success. We have created a family within our program. And that is something I am truly proud of." Coach Jason Leone

Leone has earned numerous coaching honors throughout his career, including six SUNYAC Coach of the Year awards, SUNYAC Coach of the Decade honors for 2010-19, multiple regional Coach of the Year recognitions from the NABC and D3hoops.com, and was a finalist for the Glenn Robinson National Coach of the Year award in 2018-19.

One of the defining moments of Leone's tenure came during the 2022-23 season, when Oswego won a school-record 28 games and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight for the first time in program history. The Lakers also earned a historic Sweet 16 victory over nationally top-ranked Randolph-Macon College, snapping the Yellow Jackets' NCAA-record 64-game home winning streak.

Coach Leone will be officially inducted next April (2027) in Troy, NY at the Hilton.
