Oswego, NY – The Lakers hosted the second game of SUNYAC Semifinal 3 game series with the New Paltz Hawks on Sunday afternoon. The Lakers scored early and often to clinch a spot in the SUNYAC Championship next weekend.
The Basics
Game 2 Final
Oswego: 8 (22-14, 14-4 SUNYAC)
New Paltz: 1 (23-15, 11-7 SUNYAC)
Location: Oswego, N.Y.
How it Happened
The Lakers wasted no time setting the tone, manufacturing two runs in the opening frame. After
Emil Sander worked a leadoff walk and
Harry Uvena followed with a single, both runners moved into scoring position with a double steal before
Brogan Olson drove them home with a two-RBI single to give Oswego an early 2–0 edge.
That cushion was more than enough for starting pitcher
Jonah Shearer, who turned in one of his strongest performances of the season. The right-hander was in command from the outset, holding New Paltz to 1 hit deep into the game and finishing with 7.2 innings of one-hit, shutout baseball while striking out six.
Oswego continued to build its lead in the middle innings.
Dylan Rosenberg sparked the fourth with a triple and later scored on a sacrifice fly from
Benjamin Silverman. The Lakers then broke things open in the fifth, capitalizing on an error and stringing together hits, highlighted by Olson's second two-RBI single of the afternoon to make it 5–0.
The offense stayed aggressive in the sixth, as Rosenberg doubled and came around to score on a bunt single from Thomas Harrington. Sander added an RBI single later in the inning, part of a two-run frame that pushed the advantage to 7–0.
Rosenberg finished a home run shy of the cycle, going 2-for-4 with a double, triple, and two runs scored, while Olson led the way with four RBIs on a pair of clutch singles. Sander and Uvena each collected two hits as the Lakers totaled 10 on the day.
The Lakers earned the win by a score of 8-1 over New Paltz.
