Oswego State Athletics

Utica, N.Y. - The Lakers took a road trip to Utica to square off against the 1-1 Pioneers. In a hard-fought fight with lots of shots taken, two penalty kicks by each team would be the only goals created. Each team grabbed their first tie of the 2026 campaign.

HOW IT HAPPENED
A corner kick from the Lakers kicked it off in the 6th minute. It was the first real chance by either team. The Lakers wouldn't be able to create a shot but Oswego's offense was in business. Shots then started flying as each team would get a shot off between the 17th and 21st minute. Good goal keeping from each squad would keep things knotted at zero. Offense was fluent for the Lakers as the ball was consistently on the Utica side of the field. Dylan Manrquez had two shots on goal late in the first, but Utica's Zachary Accetta kept the door shut, picking up a save on each. Both teams were fighting but after 45, the score didn't move. 

In the first eight minutes of the second half, both teams picked up a yellow card which went to show the aggressive pedigree that they both brought. Tykie Johnson was locked in, picking up two saves in the 50th and 54th minute. Shots wouldn't stop and in the 77th minute, the first goal of the game finally came. The Lakers picked up a penalty in the box and Utica's Felix-Assa Loselose had a penalty kick. Loselose netted it to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. Just a minute in a half later, Oswego got the same chance. Ian Husselbeck at the helm for a penalty kick and he delivered. In a game with non-stop action, the score was tied, 1-1. In the end, Oswego would rip three more shots, none would fall and the game finished tied at 1. 
 
WHATS NEXT
Oswego looks to get back in the win column as they welcome RPI on Saturday. The Lakers fell to RPI last year, 0-1, and will have revenge on their minds. Game time is set for 2:00pm.
