Daniel Colabufo begins his coaching career with the Oswego State men’s ice hockey program as the recipient of the Fred Festa Graduate Assistantship for the 2025–26 season. A recent standout forward and alternate captain for the Lakers, Colabufo transitions seamlessly from player to coach, bringing with him a strong playing résumé, leadership experience, and a deep understanding of the program’s culture.
Colabufo’s playing career at Oswego was marked by consistency, production, and leadership. In his senior season (2024–25), he recorded 12 goals and 12 assists for 24 points in 28 games, finishing among the team’s offensive leaders while guiding a young roster. Over the course of his Laker career, he tallied 24 goals and 26 assists, building a reputation as a dependable two-way forward with a scoring touch.
His impact extended beyond the scoresheet. Serving as an alternate captain, Colabufo was recognized as a team-first leader who helped set the standard in both preparation and performance. That leadership was formally acknowledged when he was named to the First-Team All-SUNYAC in 2025, establishing him as one of the conference’s premier forwards.
In addition to his athletic success, Colabufo excelled in the classroom. He was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society, and was honored as an AHCA All-American Scholar for his academic achievement. These recognitions reflect the balance of excellence he achieved as both a student and athlete.
Before joining the Oswego coaching staff, Colabufo also gained experience developing players through Salt City Prospects, a regional hockey development program, and at West Genesee High School, where he contributed to mentoring young athletes. These roles provided early exposure to coaching and player development, complementing his transition into collegiate coaching.
As the Fred Festa Graduate Assistant Coach, Colabufo will assist in all areas of the program, including video analysis, practice planning, recruiting, and skill development. Drawing on his playing experience, leadership background, and academic success, he looks to make an immediate impact in shaping the next generation of Lakers.
