Michael Conners was hired by the Oswego State Athletic Department in the summer of 2015 to be an assistant wrestling coach.
Before being hired by Oswego, Conners spent 25 years as the head coach for the wrestling and football teams in the Fulton City School District. In his time at Fulton, he helped the football team win a Section III Championship and make an appearance in the state finals in 2000.
In 1986 he spent a year as a wrestling coach for SUNY Albany. Prior to his stint with the Great Danes, he got his first coaching position at his alma mater, St. Lawrence University, in football and wrestling from 1984 to 1986.
As a student athlete at St. Lawrence, he played four years on both the football and wrestling teams. Conners was a three-time All-American and a four-time Conference Champion as a wrestler. In his final season on the wrestling team, in 1984, he won a National Championship.
When it came to his success on the St. Lawrence football team, Conners was a part of the Eastern Champion football squad in 1982. With his successful career as a Saint, Conners was inducted into the St. Lawrence Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002.
The Baldwinsville, N.Y. native graduated from St. Lawrence with a Bachelor of Science in 1984. He later got his Master of Education in 1986.
Conners currently resides in Fulton, N.Y. with his wife of 26 years Elizabeth and their two children Michael and Timothy.
