The SUNY Oswego Lakers men's basketball coaching staff has added Kyle Milligan for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
Milligan joins the Lakers after serving as the Graduate Assistant Coach at Russell Sage College the previous season. His roles included recruiting, assisting in practice plans, scouting, and film analysis. Other duties assigned were game preparation, player development, and social media.Â
He noted, "I am thrilled to be a part of the Lakers community and work alongside Coach Leone to continue and build upon the success of this historic program."
As an undergraduate at MCLA, Milligan served as Student Assistant Coach during his senior year. During his time at MCLA Milligan played on the baseball team and excelled academically earning All-MASCAC All-Academic Team honors each year.
Milligan is also the Head Coach of the Cap City Scrappers Travel Basketball team from 2021. An extensive experience in Grassroots basketball has allowed Milligan to travel the country while competing in the PUMA NXT Pro circuit and leading his team to the finals in Omaha, Nebraska in the summer of 2024.
"Kyle comes to Oswego as a very highly recommended young assistant. After meeting with him, it was clear he was the right person for this position. He is intelligent and brings great joy to his work. His philosophy of work revolves around the student-athletes and that is central to everything we believe in within our program here at SUNY Oswego. He will be a tireless recruiter, and he aspires to be a head coach one day. Those are great and essential qualities as an assistant. I cannot wait to work with Kyle. I would be remiss if I did not thank Brian Barnes, the head coach at Sage. It is always hard to lose an assistant coach in August. Brian could not have been more professional throughout this process. He promoted Kyle and was an advocate for him stepping into this prominent role as the lead assistant in our program. Kyle now steps into a role where so many of our previous young assistants have flourished and moved their careers forward. We are very proud of our circle of young staff members who have grown first here and then moved on. There is no doubt in my mind that Kyle will continue this tradition." Head CoachÂ
Jason Leone.
In his first season at SUNY Oswego, Milligan will be continuing his graduate program at Sage pursuing a Sport Science master's degree.
