Tyler Wurzer of the Oswego State men’s golf team has been named Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 6, 2013.
In a week where the Lakers finished fourth at the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Championship, Wurzer tied for the Oswego individual-best score. Wurzer and teammate Kyle Gaillard, who won Male Athlete of the Week earlier this year, each shot a two-round score of 156 (+14) to pace the Lakers.
Wurzer shot an 80 (+9) in the first round, helping Oswego hold third place heading into Sunday’s round. Sunday proved to be a good day for Wurzer, who shaved four strokes off his first round total to shoot a 76 (+5). The two-round total of 156 was good for a top 20 finish (T-18th). The sophomore’s 76 was also the Lakers’ second-best score on the weekend, trailing only Dan North’s first-round 75.
As a team, Oswego shot a tournament-total 626, finishing just two strokes behind third-place team Hobart College. St. John Fisher College won the event for the eighth-straight year, shooting a 566 (-2).
Oswego will return to action in the spring to complete the 2013-14 campaign.
