OSWEGO, N.Y. – Brian Sortino of the men’s basketball team has been named the Oswego State Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending on Jan. 24, 2016.
Sortino had two 20-point games to help the Lakers achieve a 1-1 record in conference play this week. The junior also hit a career milestone in the week’s second game.
In Oswego’s road victory over Brockport on Tuesday, Sortino put up 28 points, including 15 from beyond the arc. The Fairport, N.Y. native also dished a season-high six assists. In the loss against Cortland on Saturday, Sortino scored 22 points while hitting the 1,000 career-point mark, just the 17th men’s basketball player in school history to do that.
The guard is currently averaging 19.1 points per game, ranking him 85th in all of Division III.
Men’s basketball will return to action at 7:30 p.m. on Friday as the team continues its SUNYAC play with a home battle against New Paltz.
