OSWEGO, N.Y. – Emily Burton of the women’s swimming and diving team has been named the Oswego State Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending on Feb. 21, 2016.
Over the course of the four-day event, Burton contributed towards Oswego’s total with 22 points of her own and 54 more points coming as part of the relays.
In the first of her events and the fifth event of the SUNYAC Championships, Burton earned first in her heat and ninth overall in the 500-yard freestyle to earn nine points. Later on, the sophomore helped power Oswego off the block first in the 800-yard Freestyle Relay. The team earned fifth place in the event after Burton began the first leg with the third-best time.
The West Islip, N.Y. native then went on to swim in the 1650-yard freestyle, placing less than a second behind fifth place to earn 13 points. In the last event of the championships, Burton swam the penultimate leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay helping the squad place in sixth for 26 more points.
