OSWEGO, N.Y. – Ben Griffin of the men’s track and field team has been named the Oswego State Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 28, 2016.
Griffin was an instrumental part of the team’s success over the weekend, earning six points in individual competition and assisting in another twelve in the form of relays. Griffin finished the 800 meter with a time of 1:58 which was good enough for third place overall. The time, which was less than a second behind the top-two finishers, earned the squad six points.
The junior also helped out in two different relays that resulted in top-five finishes for the team. In the distance medley relay which finished second with a time of 10:28.23, Griffin ran the first leg of 1200 meters. The time was good enough to qualify the relay team for ECAC Championships.
Griffin’s excellent SUNYAC performance continued later, as he ran the final leg of the 4-by-400 meter relay that earned the squad fifth place and four more points.
Lakers will have their last chance to qualify for nationals at St. Lawrence University on Saturday.
