OSWEGO, N.Y. – Esther Gabriel of the women’s lacrosse team has been named the Oswego State Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 17, 2016.
Gabriel had a career day in the team’s victory over Fredonia on Thursday; it’s first over the Blue Devils since 2007. The senior scored a career-high six goals, finding the net on all but one of her shots including 2-2 on free position chances. Her final tally of the contest was the game winner, boosting the Lakers to a 10-9 conference victory.
Gabriel continued to lead the squad the rest of the week, notching five goals in two games. At the end of the three-game stretch, she had 11 goals in just 15 shots on goal, four ground balls, eight draw controls, and three caused turnovers.
After the impressive week, Gabriel now leads the squad in goals with 25, coming from .568 shooting percentage.
Women’s lacrosse will be back on the turf at 6 p.m. on Tuesday when it hosts Buffalo State.
