Daniel Rodriguez of the men’s swimming and diving team has been named the Oswego State Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending Dec. 4.
Rodriguez turned in a record-breaking swim for the second time this season over the weekend at the Hamilton College Invitational. The freshman swam a time of 16:04.96 in the 1650-yard freestyle, which smashed the standing program record of 16:34.62, set by Jason Cotter in 2007.
The Madrid, Spain native’s time was good enough to make the NCAA provisional ‘B’ cut list, which makes the swimmer eligible for consideration for the 2017 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships.
Lastly, Rodriguez also downed Bristol Pool’s (Hamilton College) record with the swim.
Men’s swimming and diving returns to the pool at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14 as they travel to Buffalo State for a dual match.
