Brian Sortino of the Oswego State men’s basketball team has been named the Male Athlete of the week for the week ending on Dec. 11, 2016.
Sortino was crucially important to Oswego’s 2-1 week, especially Saturday’s 71-70 win over conference rival Buffalo State. The senior tallied 21 points in the game, including going 4-for-6 (66.7%) from behind the arc. One of the four shots made from deep was a game-winner as the senior guard nailed a 3-pointer with less than 10 seconds remaining on the clock to give the Lakers an insurmountable 71-70 lead.
During Friday’s 70-64 win versus Fredonia, Sortino tallied a team-high 26 points on 50 percent (7-for-14) shooting from the field. Over the course of the week, he recorded 63 points—good for a 21.0 point per game average—while hauling in 12 boards, dishing out nine assists and stealing four balls.
Oswego returns to action after the holiday break on Friday, Jan. 6 for a conference battle against the Oneonta Red Dragons.
