Joey Davies of the nationally-ranked men's ice hockey team has been named Oswego State Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 22, 2017.
Davies helped Oswego manage a 1-0-1 week, including a 5-0 comeback against the No. 5/6 Geneseo Knights. The senior forward recorded multiple four-point games with the first coming in a 10-1 win over Brockport on Friday. He tallied a couple of assists and then completed the night with a pair of goals, including one in the short-handed fashion.
On Saturday, Davies provided the spark to a potent Laker offense. After falling down 5-0 to the nationally-ranked Knights, Davies got Oswego on the board with a couple of goals late in the second. He followed this up assisting on the team's third goal just 24 seconds into the final period of regulation, making it a 5-3 game. Davies' last goal of the day, marking his first-career hat trick and ninth goal of the year came in the seventh minute of the third to cut the Knight's lead to one.
No. 3/3 Oswego would eventually score the equalizing goal with just 3.3 seconds remaining to earn the tie, a feat that would have been impossible if not for Davies' performance. The Lakers are now 14-3-1 on the year and lead the conference with an all-important 19 points.
