OSWEGO, N.Y. - Daniel Rodriguez of the men’s swimming and diving team has been named the Oswego State Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending on Dec 3. During the Hamilton College Invitational on Saturday, Rodriguez turned in five first place finishes in separate events to help Oswego clinch second place out of seven teams competing.
The sophomore made the NCAA B-cut in the 1650-yard free, citing a time of 16:12.42 on the way to a first place finish in this event as well. Rodriguez finished more than a minute faster than second place in this event. The Madrid, Spain native would face his closest result of the day in the men’s 200-yard free with a time of 1:49.01. Rodriguez finished less than one-tenth of a second faster than teammate Nicholas Weber, who finished in second place with a time of 1:49.09.
With just over three seconds separating Rodriguez and the next closest finisher, the sophomore claimed his first event of the day for the Lakers in the men’s 500-yard free with a time of 4:49.33. During the 800-yard free relay, Rodriguez was efficient at the three spot of his grouping allowing Oswego to finish at the top of the board in this event as well, clocking a time of 7:15.18 which was more than five seconds faster than second place.
Finishing the competition in the three spot again of his relay grouping, Rodriguez and Oswego would excel to a first place finish in the men’s 400-yard free relay with a time of 3:14.55. He and the Lakers now break for winter, returning to their schedule at 4 p.m. on Jan. 17th in Cortland, N.Y. against the Red Dragons.
