OSWEGO, N.Y. – Sean Paul Owen – of the golf team – has been named Oswego State Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sept. 16. The senior earned the top spot in the Empire 8 Fall Championship over the weekend.
Owen was in second place following the first round, shooting 72, which was par for the course. His score set him one stroke behind the leader from St. John Fisher College.
The senior added one stroke on his second round for a two-day total of 145 (+1), earning himself the first place seat. He leads the second place golfer by three strokes heading into the spring portion of the championship.
For the Horseheads, N.Y. native’s efforts, the Lakers hold first place into the Empire 8 Spring Championship. This is the first time since the Empire 8 switched to the four-round format in the 2006-07 season that St. John Fisher has not led after two rounds.
Owen and the golf team return to action at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25, as they travel to Elmira for the 46th Elmira College Fall Invitational.
