Robert Friske was Oswego State’s men’s soccer coach for 12 seasons, with 21 overall as a collegiate head coach. Friske, who sports a career record of 171-179-23, has directed his teams to ten conference tournament appearances and five conference titles. While at Oswego State, Friske coached nine players that have received 12 All-SUNYAC accolades, including three-time selection Bryan Pacchiana and most recently, Bernard Osei, who was the 2016 SUNYAC Rookie of the Year.
Friske also is at the helm of the men's tennis squad, taking up the position in 2011. In the 2016 season, he led the team to a 12-2 record, setting the program record for most wins in a single season.
In 2006, Friske led the Lakers to their first winning record in six years. Oswego State qualified for the SUNYAC and ECAC Upstate playoffs, and advanced to the semifinals of the SUNYAC tournament that year.
Prior to becoming the head coach at Oswego State, Friske had a successful 10-year run at Norwich University and Keuka College. During his tenure at Norwich, he guided the team to three appearances in the NCAA Division III Championships along with three-consecutive conference titles. In the 2001 season under Friske, Norwich compiled an impressive 21-1 record that included 13 shutouts and a trip to the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament. Friske was selected as the conference Coach of the Year in 1999 and 2000. In 2003 and 2004, he guided Keuka College to an overall record of 22 wins and 11 losses and two conference tournament appearances and championships.
Friske is a 1991 graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh, earning a degree in Business and a minor in Athletic Coaching, where he was a four-year defender. He later earned a Master’s Degree in 1995 from SUNY Brockport, majoring in Athletic Administration. In 1995, he earned his national coaching license from the NSCAA.
