The Oswego State women's soccer team opened SUNY Athletic Conference play by shutting out visiting SUNYIT by the score of 2-0 on Saturday, Sept. 18, at the South Athletic Complex.
The Lakers are now an even 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the SUNYAC, while the Wildcats fell to 0-2 in the conference and 0-5 overall.
Oswego State opened the scoring 35:43 into the game as McCall Vrydaghs (Campbell Hall) knocked in a rebound off her own shot after receiving a cross from her sister Morgan Vrydaghs (Campbell Hall).
The Lakers struck again 47 seconds later as junior Maureen Kasperek (Fulton) sent a perfect pass to Megan Rogers (Syracuse) and the sophomore slipped a shot inside the far post for a 2-0 advantage. The assist moved Kasperek into second place on the school's all-time scoring list as she now has 105 points.
Freshman goalie Ashlee Distin (Fulton) recorded her second straight shutout finishing with a pair of saves.
In goal for the Wildcats, Amy Trowbridge (Ghent) had a solid game making 15 saves, including a diving stop on a penalty kick by Kasperek in the opening half.
Oswego State returns to action on Friday, Sept. 24, at Geneseo.
