Williamsport, PA - The 14th-ranked Oswego State wrestling team won two out of three dual meets at the NY/PA Duals held at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
The event featured Lycoming, King's College, and the University of Scranton challenging SUNY-Cortland, SUNY-Oswego, and Rochester Institute of Technology in a round robin of dual matches. The Lakers defeated King?s by the score of 34-13 and Scranton 38-9 while losing to the host Warriors 31-9. Lycoming was a perfect 3-0 on the day while Oswego and Scranton were 2-1 on the afternoon, Cortland and RIT went 1-2 and King's finished 0-3.
In the opening match against King's, the Lakers won seven of ten bouts. Oswego State jumped out to an 18-0 lead as Walter Sosonowski (Massapequa) won by forfeit at 125 pounds. Fulton native Josh LeVea (Fulton/G. Ray Bodly) recorded a pin in 2:35 at 133 pounds while senior Tenkoran Agyeman (Bronx/Truman) pinned his opponent in 2:51 at 141 pounds. Oswego's Jonathon Jagatnarain (Bronx/Truman) won by major decision 12-3 at 184 pounds. Laker co-captain Frank Petrucci (Montebello/Bosco Prep) won by a 4-2 decision at 165 pounds while Matt Gough (Penfield) won 4-0 at 197. Jake Taylor (Rochester/Rush Henrietta) completed the Oswego scoring with a pin in :51 at 285 pounds.
Lycoming, ranked 19th in the latest Division III coaches poll, claimed eight of ten matches to defeat the Lakers in round two. Agyeman put Oswego on the scoreboard with a fall at 141as he pinned Zach Knorr in 2:33. Pete Kaskella (Massena) picked up the other Laker victory at 197 pounds defeating Al Fluman 4-2.
In the final match of the day against Scranton the Lakers were dominant, claiming eight of ten matches to gain the victory. Recording pins for Oswego were LeVea at 133, Agyeman at 141, Chuck Guttilla at 174 and Taylor at heavyweight. Kaskella picked up a forfeit at 197 while Sosnowski, Petrucci and Jagatnarain each won by decision.
The Lakers, who improved to 3-2 on the year, will return to Williamsport this weekend to participate in the Budd Whitehill Division III Challenge Duals on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 14 and 15.
