The Oswego State wrestling team opened its dual-meet season with a 31-16 victory over the Rochester Institute of Technology on Thursday at Max Ziel Gymnasium in Oswego. The Lakers earned three wins by pin and two wins by tech fall in the 10-bout match to defeat the visiting Tigers.

Winners by pin for Oswego State were junior Sean Michel at 133 pounds, junior Ron Williams at 184 pounds, and junior heavyweight Jake Taylor (Rochester).

RIT won the 125-pound bout when Mike McInally pinned Mike Daly in 4:49. The Lakers then won three of the next four bouts to take a 14-9 lead. Eric DiCapua capped that Laker string with a tech fall victory over RIT's Josh Schneider.

A pair of decision victories by RIT's Jason Wake at 165 and Justin Betz at 174 turned things in RIT's favor as they led the meet 16-14, but the Lakers won the final three bouts of the night including pins by Williams and Taylor, and a 15-0 tech fall victory for Matt Gough (Penfield) at 197 pounds.

Oswego State's Derrick Smith (Mexico) and RIT's Nick Ryan won their matches by decision.
