The Oswego State volleyball team played its first match of the year in Ziel Gymnasium but lost in three games to St. John Fisher. The game scores were 30-21, 30-28, 30-25.

Breanne Scholla, a junior from Oswego, led the Lakers with 14 kills and also had 10 digs. Beth Widzinski, Heidi Armstrong, and Amanda Cipriano all had 11 digs each for Oswego State but the defensive work didn't turn into offense as Scholla was the only person in double-figures in kills in the match. Laker setter Shannon Hennigan had 25 assists and six kills.

St. John Fisher was paced by Kristi Pallotta (Liverpool) with nine kills and 16 digs.

Oswego State is now 5-4 on the season and St. John Fisher is 2-3. The Lakers will compete in the Union College Invitational at Skidmore College this weekend. Friday's opening round will pit the Lakers against Union and Hartwick.
