Led by sophomore setter Shannon Hennigan, the Oswego State volleyball team began its season with a 3-1 record at the Oneonta Holiday Inn/Red Dragon Invitational during Labor Day weekend.

The Lakers won their first two matches of the year, which took place on Friday, Sept. 1. In the opener, Oswego State beat Potsdam 30-22, 30-15, 30-17. Heidi Armstrong had 20 kills and served four aces in the match. The second match of the day saw the Lakers dispose of Utica 30-18, 30-11, 30-7. Breanne Scholla had 10 kills and Shara Dowd had nine kills for the Lakers. Hennigan had 32 assists and tied a school record with 9 aces in the match.

The second day of play saw Oswego State lose to eventual tournament champion RIT 32-30, 30-20, 30-9. The Lakers responded with a close win over Oneonta 30-28, 30-18, 31-29. Hennigan had 40 assists, which gave her 138 on the weekend, as she averaged 11.5 assists per game. Scholla had 15 kills in the win and Armstrong and Samantha Pickering had 11 each.

Oswego State travels to Potsdam on Sept. 8-9 for the North Country Invitational.
