The Laker wrestling team lost twice and won once on the first day of competition at the Budd Whitehill Duals at Lycoming College. In the first round, Oswego State fell 27-12 to fifth-seeded Loras College, who is ranked 16th nationally this week. In the consolation round, the Lakers were beaten 17-16 by St. John's (Minnesota) 17-16. The final meet of the night for Oswego State was a 31-15 win over Norwich.

Oswego State took an early 6-4 lead in the dual against Loras when Sean Michel and Derrick Smith won their bouts by decision at 133 and 141 pounds. Loras then won the next six bouts to take an insurmountable 27-6 lead, before Laker heavyweight Jake Taylor pinned Trevor Kaufman in 2:30 in the final bout of the meet.

In the second meet of the day, Oswego State rallied late, but fell one point short of St. John's in a 17-16 defeat. The Lakers trailed 10-0 before Derrick Smith picked up his second victory of the day, this time at 149 pounds, over Minga Batsukh. Colby Cooper also earned a win by a 1-0 decision for Oswego State, but the Lakers went into the final three bouts of the night trailing 17-6. Oswego State won all three bouts, but didn't earn enough points to earn the dual-meet victory. Ron Williams scored a 7-2 decision over Joe Lofboom; Matt Gough got a 1-0 decision over Aaron Blackmore; and Jake Taylor earned a 17-9 major decision over Ray Marvin in the heavyweight bout.

The Lakers wrapped up their day with a 31-15 win over Norwich. Mike Daly (125) and Jake Taylor (285) won by pin for Oswego State, and Mike Bahrenburg won by major decision at 149. Eric DiCapua, Chuck Guttilla, and Ron Williams also won by decision, and Gough was a forfeit winner.
