All 10 bouts were decided by decision, with two stretching beyond the regulation periods, as Oneonta defeated Oswego State 21-9 in a wrestling dual meet in Oswego on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers are 4-7 on the year, while Oneonta is 10-6.

The meet started with the 133-pound bout, and each team won two of the first four of the day. Derrick Smith won at 141 pounds for the Lakers, defeating Michael Gregg 12-5.

At 149 pounds, Mike Bahrenburg scored a third-period take down to force overtime against John Leech at 149 pounds. The wrestlers stayed in a neutral position for the sudden-victory period. Leech scored an escape and a takedown in the first tie-breaker period for a 7-4 lead. Bahrenburg managed just an escape in the second tie-breaker period and Leech earned the win by decision.

The Lakers got a sudden-victory win in the very next bout. Eric DiCapua scored a takedown of Brian Coyle just 20 seconds into the overtime period and won a 3-1 decision.

DiCapua's win knotted the meet score 6-6, but Oneonta won the next four bouts to take a commanding 18-6 lead. Geoff Rosa (165), Josh Wake (174), Michael Hamilton (184), and Dennis Norton (197) had those crucial wins.

Jake Taylor, at heavyweight, won an 11-9 decision for Oswego State, and Scott Gorman of Oneonta capped the meet with a win over Mike Daly at 125.
