The St. Olaf Oles scored nine of the 13 goals in Monday night's women's ice hockey game at the Campus Center Ice Arena, defeating the Oswego State Lakers 9-4.
Oswego State opened the scoring when Jessica Lister blocked a shot and controlled the puck to set up a breakaway. She beat St. Olaf goalie Shannon Herrick to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead just 1:05 into the game.
The Oles responded with three goals before the first period ended, and outshot Oswego State 22-3 in the period. Janae Fabini, Tessa Christensen, and Susannah Brokl scored for the Oles.
The visitors stretched the lead to 7-1 by scoring three times in the second period and again in the opening minute of the third, but Oswego State fought back to score three times in the final period of play.
Stephanie Esposito and Lister scored power-play goals for Oswego State, and Jenna Kirkwood added a short-handed goal late in the third period to cap the scoring for the Lakers. Lister finished the game with three points, and Angie Friesen had a pair of assists.
Starting goalie Hilary Hitchman made 25 saves on 30 shots, before being replaced by Erin Robson who made 13 saves on 17 shots. Herrick finished with 22 saves for St. Olaf.
The Oles are now 9-6-1 overall, while Oswego State is 6-8-2.
The Lakers travel to Plattsburgh for a pair of games this weekend, those will take place Saturday and Sunday at Stafford Ice Arena. Both games begin at 2 p.m.
