Lakers host three teams for NY/PA Duals

The Oswego State wrestling team returns to action this weekend when it hosts the Rochester Institute of Technology and Pennsylvania-based Kings College and Lycoming College for the NY/PA duals. Action will take place beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday at the main gym at Oswego High School.

The 4 p.m. duals will pit Oswego State versus Kings, and RIT against Lycoming. The second round of dual meets is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. and Oswego State will go up against Lycoming, and RIT will take on Kings.

The Lakers enter the weekend with a dual-meet record of 1-2 and return to the mat after a one-month layoff. Oswego State's last action came on Dec. 6, a 26-15 dual-meet loss to Ithaca College at Max Ziel Gymnasium.

Junior heavyweight Jake Taylor has been the most outstanding performer on the Oswego State team to this point. He has a 15-1 individual record, with all 15 of his victories coming by pin. Taylor has twice been honored as the Wrestler of the Week by the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference.

Two local wrestlers, Derrick Smith (Mexico High School) and Mike Howard (Oswego High School) will factor in the lineup for the Lakers. Smith has a 14-6 record on the year.

RIT enters this weekend's event with an 0-2 dual-meet record, including a 31-16 loss to Oswego State on Nov. 9. The Tigers other loss is against nationally-ranked Ithaca. Freshman Mike McInally, at 125 pounds, is ranked fifth in his weight class.

Kings College is 1-6 in dual meets this year, but all six losses were against teams currently ranked in the Brute/adidas NWCA Division III Poll, which was last released on Dec. 10. The Monarchs are led by sophomore David Morgan at 133 pounds, who is the No. 1-ranked wrestler in his weight class.

Lycoming entered a busy stretch in its schedule with a 1-1 dual-meet record. They competed Thursday in the John Reese Duals hosted by Wilkes College, before visiting Oswego State this weekend. Lycoming will also host next week's Division III Challenge Duals, which the Lakers will participate in.
