The Oswego State wrestling team defeated Kings College 34-16 and lost to Lycoming 24-15 in a pair of dual meets held at Oswego High School on Saturday afternoon. In the other dual meets in the NY/PA Duals, Lycoming defeated RIT 38-12, and Kings defeated RIT 27-23.
In the 34-16 victory over Kings, the Lakers won three matches by pinfall and another by major decision. Craig Becker pinned his opponent in 4:06 at 174 pounds; Matt Gough pinned his opponent in 6:59 at 197 pounds; and heavyweight Jake Taylor pinned Jim Bishop in 1:00. Derrick Smith won a 12-4 major decision over Anthony Miele. Mike Daly (125) and Sean Michel (133) were the forfeit winners for the Lakers.
Oswego State lost three decisions by just one point and came out on the short end of a 24-15 decision against Lycoming in the second dual of the day. Eric DiCapua won a 6-5 decision at 157 pounds and heavyweight Jake Taylor won by pinfall to cap the dual meet. It was Taylor's 17th pin of the season and he is 17-1 on the year. The other Laker winner was Matt Gough, by forfeit, at 197.
The Lakers are now 2-3 in dual-meet action this season and will compete in the Division III Challenge Duals at Lycoming College on Jan. 12-13.
