Lakers wrap up season with loss in high-scoring game

The Oswego State women's ice hockey team dropped its final game of the season, losing 11-5 at Utica on Sunday afternoon.

The high-scoring game featured eight goals in the first period as the game was tied 4-4 after 20 minutes. The teams combined to use five goalies on the afternoon.

Kendra Lemire opened the scoring on a breakaway 3:52 into the contest but Utica's Mandy Finkle tied the score 21 seconds later. The teams traded goals again, with Jessica Lister scoring for Oswego State and Andrea Maxon evening the score for Utica. The Lakers then built a 4-2 lead on goals by Lister and Mackenzie May just 13 seconds apart.

The Pioneers scored the next six goals of the game to take control. Samantha Rowan scored twice late in the first period, and finished her hat trick early in the second to give UC a 5-4 lead. Ashley Kaufman, Stephanie Price, and Maxon also scored in the second period.

Jessica O'Grady scored the final goal for the Lakers. Hilary Hitchman made 42 saves on 49 shots faced and Erin Robson had 22 saves on 26 shots.

The Lakers finished their inaugural season with a 7-12-3 overall record and a 2-9-3 mark in the ECAC Women's West. Utica is now 18-4-3 overall and finished 10-2-2 in the league.
