Late first-half goals for Oneonta enough to beat Lakers

The Oswego State men's soccer team opened its home schedule and SUNYAC schedule with a 2-0 loss to Oneonta.

The Lakers and Red Dragons played even over the first 30 minutes of the contest before Oneonta broke through with two goals in a span of eight minutes. The first goal came when Kyle Hoffer turned in a low cross from Michael Mahoney at 32:38 to give the Red Dragons the lead.

The second goal came at 40:38 when Keith Manscuk collected the ball and curled a shot into the upper right corner of the net from approximately 22 yards out.

The Lakers managed eight shots in the game and four were on net. Oswego State goalie Shaun Sessa had nine saves.

The Red Dragons are 2-3-0 overall and 1-0-0 in SUNYAC play. Oswego State is 1-4-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the conference.

The Lakers will play at home on Friday at 4 p.m. against Morrisville. Both Oneonta and Morrisville are provisional members of the SUNYAC in men's soccer this year. Games against those teams will count in the league standings, but they are ineligible for the playoffs.
