Lakers go 2-3 in SUNYAC pool play; Armstrong sets career record for kills

The Oswego State volleyball team won two and lost three matches this weekend at SUNYAC West Pool Play at Geneseo. On Friday, the Lakers lost to Brockport and defeated Buffalo State. In Saturday's action, Oswego State defeated Morrisville and lost to Fredonia and Geneseo.

With 18 kills in the two matches on Friday, senior Heidi Armstrong passed Erin Hanlon as the career leader in kills in the Oswego State program. Hanlon's career record was at 1,168 kills.

Oswego State lost to Brockport by scores of 30-20, 30-19, 30-21 and then defeated Buffalo State by scores of 30-10, 30-11, 26-30, 30-20.

In Saturday's matches, the Lakers opened the day with a three-game win over Morrisville. Scores were 30-10, 30-18, 30-24. Oswego State then lost to Fredonia 28-30, 30-23, 30-24, 30-15 and lost to Geneseo 30-25, 30-24, 30-18.

The Lakers are now 6-13 overall and 2-3 in SUNYAC play. Oswego State will host the Oswego Quad tournament next weekend with action on Friday and Saturday at Max Ziel Gymnasium featuring the Lakers and guests Hamilton, St. Lawrence, and Elmira.

Brockport def. Oswego State
Senior Kaylen Fessette handed out 30 assists and classmate Shae Gilmore pounded 10 kills to lead the Golden Eagles. Senior Hilary Dank added eight kills and 14 digs for Brockport. Oswego was paced by freshman Kim Hayes, who had eight kills and six digs.

Oswego State def. Buffalo State
Oswego got 13 kills and 12 digs from Heidi Armstrong and 13 kills from Kim Hayes to pace the attack. Senior Amanda McManus contributed 32 assists for the Lakers. Buffalo St. was led by Laura Palisano, who had nine kills and Maria Schaffstall, who totaled 20 digs.

Oswego State def. Morrisville
Oswego's Kim Hayes totaled 12 kills and nine digs and Amanda McManus combined 37 assists with nine digs to lead the Lakers. Senior Heidi Armstrong added eight kills, 12 digs and three service aces for Oswego. Morrisville was paced by Ebony Whitfield's seven kills, seven digs and senior Jill Pedulla's 11 assists.

Fredonia def. Oswego State
Fredonia came from behind with Jenna Tatu and Amy Bertrando each contributing 14 kills. Junior Alyssa Torpy passed out 49 assists for the Blue Devils. Oswego got 14 kills from Heidi Armstrong and eight kills, 28 assists and 11 digs from Amanda McManus.

Geneseo def. Oswego State
Senior Heidi Armstrong led Oswego with nine kills and Amanda McManus totaled 26 assists and seven digs.
