The Oswego State women's soccer team lost 2-1 to SUNY Cortland on Wednesday afternoon at Laker Field. The Lakers and Red Dragons were deadlocked at 1-1 for nearly 30 minutes, but Cortland sophomore Laura Bocher scored on a breakaway in the 69th minute for the decisive score.
Cortland got on the board first with a rebound goal by Kayla Sweet in the 14th minute of action. That lead nearly stood up for the remainder of the half, but Laker sophomore Mariana Bartonicek (Berne/Berne-Knox-Westerlo) evened the score with her fourth goal of the season in the 41st minute.
Cortland snapped a four game winless streak with the victory and improved their record to 6-5-4 on the season, 4-2-2 in the SUNYAC. Oswego State has gone winless in their last eight games and fell to 5-10-1, 1-7-1 in conference play. The Lakers will round out their conference schedule Saturday when they visit New Paltz for a 1 p.m. match.
