For the second time in as many weekends, the Oswego State women's tennis team saw another chance at victory snatched away, dropping a 5-4 decision to host SUNY Fredonia in a battle that came down to the final singles match.

The Lakers opened by taking two of three doubles matches.  After dropping the opening match at second singles, Oswego answered with the team of juniors Tiarra Garrow (Morrisonville/National Sports Academy) and Christina Burkhart (Canandaigua) needing a tiebreaker game to post a 9-7 win over Anna Norris and Calee Prindle of Fredonia, and the senior duo of Sara Gotlib (New City/Clarkstown South) and Heather Lucarelli (Churchville/Churchville-Chili) garnering an 8-3 triumph over Fredonia's Megan Zarzycki and Mallory Long at third doubles.

In singles, the Blue Devils (3-5, 1-0 SUNYAC) opened with straight-set wins at third and fourth singles to take a 3-2 advantage before Garrow won in straight sets (6-1, 6-0) over Norris at first single to even the score. Garrow remains undefeated in singles play with a 5-0 record, with only one match going the full three sets.

Both teams exchanged victories as Fredonia took sixth singles, while Oswego won at fifth singles as senior Sarahjean Marhone (Hollis/Bayside) registered a 4~6, 6~0, 6~2 triumph over Zarzycki to also remain undefeated in singles play at 5-0.

The deciding match came down to second singles between Oswego's Burkhart and Prindle of Fredonia. Burkhart took the opening set in a tiebreaker (8-7), but Prindle took the next two sets, 6-2, 7-5 to give the Blue Devils the victory.

Oswego (1-4, 0-3 SUNYAC) returns home on Tuesday, Sept. 23 to face SUNY Cortland in a 3 p.m. match at the Onondaga Tennis Courts.
