Oswego drops 8-1 decision to defending SUNYAC champ New Paltz

With only six players on the roster for the remainder of the season, the Oswego State women's tennis team traveled to SUNY New Paltz to face the defending SUNYAC champion Hawks, where they dropped their fourth straight conference match with an 8-1 decision.

New Paltz swept all three doubles matches, and won five of six in singles play, with Oswego junior Tiarra Garrow (Morrisonville/National Sports Academy) registering the lone win at first singles. Garrow, who remains undefeated in singles with a 7-0 record, held a 4-1 lead over Dana Lim of New Paltz in the opening set before Lim was forced to retire due to injury.

Seniors Joanne Duhan (Angola/Lakeshore) and Sarahjean Marhone (Hollis/Bayside) lost to their respective opponents in exciting three-set battles. Duhan won the opening set at third singles versus New Paltz's Lindsay Trifiletti, 7-6, before dropping the next two sets, 6-1, 10-2 (super set tiebreaker).  Mahorne, playing fifth singles against the Hawks' Calder Mills-Lexvold, took the opening set, 6-1, before losing the next two, 6-2, 11-9.

Oswego will close out its SUNYAC schedule with consecutive matches next week, traveling to SUNY Brockport for a 4 p.m. match on Friday, Oct. 2, before returning home the next day to take on SUNY Geneseo in a 1 p.m. contest on the Onondaga Tennis Courts.
