The Oswego State volleyball team got back into the win column by defeating Alfred University 3-1 (22-25, 25-15, 25-11, 25-10) at the Oswego State Invitational on Friday at Max Ziel Gymnasium. In the first match of the day, the Lakers lost to Medaille 3-1 (26-24, 21-25, 21-25, 18-25).
Oswego State, which is now 5-18 overall, will face Morrisville at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Against Medaille, no Laker player registered double-digit kills as
Katie van Kessel (So., Millbrook, N.Y.) and
Alyssa Brock (Sr., Pine Bush, N.Y.) paced the team with seven kills each. Setter
Liz Crouch (Jr., Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) posted a double-double with 15 assists and 12 digs, while
Shauna Westrack (Fr., Nesconset, N.Y.) led the defense with 22 digs.
Offensive statistics improved dramatically versus Alfred as the squad hit its stride after dropping the first set.
Jess Isgro (So., Brockport, N.Y.) registered 19 kills, hitting an amazing .517. van Kessel joined Isgro in double-digits with 10 kills. Serving played a key role during the match as four players, including
Rachel Rossi (Jr., Waverly, N.Y.),
Kelsey Ihle (Fr., Clarence Center, N.Y.), van Kessel, and Westrack, recorded at least three service aces apiece. Westrack and Isgro also contributed nine digs each.
