The Oswego State volleyball fought back from a 2-0 deficit to force a decisive fifth set against Sage Colleges, but came up short in a 3-2 (17-25, 17-25, 25-18, 26-24, 12-15) loss at the Union Invitational on Friday. In their first match of the tournament, the Lakers were handed a 3-0 (6-25, 17-25, 21-25) loss to Vassar.
Alyssa Brock (Sr., Pine Bush, N.Y.) led Oswego offensively against Vassar with five kills, while Kelsey Ihle (Fr., Clarence Center, N.Y.) added 13 digs.
Katie van Kessel (So., Millbrook, N.Y.) recorded a double-double against Sage after tallying ten kills and 17 digs to go along with two service aces. Liz Crouch (Jr., Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) also posted a double-double as she distributed 32 assists and had 10 digs. Ihle paced the Lakers defensively with 18 digs and two service aces.
Oswego State, which dropped to 2-8 overall, will face Utica and Elms on Saturday in the final day of the Union Invitational. The match-up against Utica will be the second meeting between the squads this season. The Pioneers prevailed in the first contest by the score of 3-1.
