The Oswego State volleyball team dropped matches to SUNYIT and Medaille, 3-1 in each match, to earn third place at their home invitational Saturday at Max Ziel Gymnasium.  The Lakers fell to SUNYIT by the scores of 21-25, 25-19, 17-25, 21-25 and Medaille by the result of 25-21, 17-25, 11-25, 20-25.  Outside hitter Katie van Kessel was named to the all-tournament team based on her weekend performance.  Oswego State dropped to 8-16 overall with the losses.

The Lakers struggled in the first two sets against SUNYIT before taking the third set, but they would not be able to force a fifth and decisive set.  van Kessel paced the squad with ten kills, four service aces, and a match-leading 19 digs.  Kelsey Lewis also compiled nine kills for the Oswego State cause, while Stephany Olsheski handed out 26 assists.  From the backrow, Kelsey Ihle also registered 15 digs

In a rematch of Friday night's match, Medaille exacted revenge on Oswego State by an identical 3-1 score.  van Kessel continued to have the hot hand for the Lakers as she put down nine kills, but it would not be enough as the Mavericks tallied 53 kills compared to 22 for the home team.  Olsheski ended the match with 19 assists, while Ihle contributed 15 digs.

Oswego State returns to action Tuesday, Oct. 19 against SUNYIT at 7 p.m.  The game will also be the Lakers' "Dig Pink" event to help raise awareness about breast cancer.
