The Oswego State volleyball team wrapped up the second day of the Union Invitational with a 3-0 win over Utica and a 3-1 loss to host Union on Saturday in Schenectady. The Lakers defeated Utica by the scores of
25-11, 25-9, and 25-21 in the day's first match before dropping their match against Union by the scores
25-16, 17-25, 25-17, and 25-11. Oswego State, which moved to 4-9 overall on the year, will face Utica in a rematch Wednesday night in Oswego at 7 p.m.
Junior outside hitter
Katie van Kessel (Millbrook, N.Y.) was the top offensive weapon for the Lakers as she notched nine kills against Utica and eight kills versus Union. Defensively, she recorded one block in the victory and 12 digs in the loss, while senior
Liz Crouch compiled 14 digs against Union. Freshman middle hitter
Sabrina Sutton (Fulton, N.Y.) also provided some offense in each contest with five and eight kills, respectively.
Oswego State received contributions from several other players in the win over Utica.
Courtney Price (So., Syracuse, N.Y.) matched van Kessel's eight kills, while fellow classmates
Jenna Sniffen and
Chelsea Crump tallied six kills each.
Stephany Olsheski (So., Brockport, N.Y.) ended the day with a combined 46 assists.
For her efforts over the weekend,
Katie van Kessel was named to the all-tournament team.
