Cortland's Jackie De Luise registered two goals and Amanda Margolis and Allie Maguire each netted a goal of their own, as the Oswego State women's soccer team closed out their SUNYAC schedule with a 4-0 loss at Cortland on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Dragons outshot the Lakers 22-10 and recorded 11 shots on goal. Forward
Nikki Liadka (So., Liverpool, N.Y.) led the team with three shots. In total, the Lakers registered just four shots on goal.
Scoreless through the first 28 minutes of the game, the Red Dragons opened the scoring at 28:57 on Maguire's fourth goal of the season. Maguire collected a loose ball in the box and placed a shot just inside the left post past Oswego State goalkeeper
Emily Varonier (Jr., Miller Place, N.Y.) for the game's first goal. Emma Whittle was credited with the assist on Cortland's first goal.
With 33 minutes gone by in the game, Cortland struck again with its second goal. De Luise scored her first of two goals after collecting a long pass from Caitlin Guerra. De Luise fired a shot on goal from the right side of the field that deflected off Varonier and found its way into the back of the Oswego State net, giving the Red Dragons a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
De Luise registered her second goal of the game and eighth of the season just 4:20 into the second half for the Red Dragons. De Luise received a pass from Margolis on the right side of the field, where she directed a shot on net that ricocheted off the far-side post and into the back of the net.
Margolis finished the scoring at 53:08 of the game on her eighth goal of the season. Kelly Knight sent a cross into the box from the right side of the field that Margolis chested past Varonier for the final goal of the game.
The Red Dragons limited the Lakers to five shots in both the first and second half and did not allow a corner kick the entire game. Oswego State limited Cortland to just one corner kick in the first half.
Varonier finished with seven saves on 11 shots faced in a losing effort for the Lakers, while Cortland's starting goalkeepr Pam Monnier finished with three saves in 61:28 of action. Monnier was replaced by Taylor Hudson for the remainder of the game, recording one save.
With the loss, the Lakers dropped to 0-13-0 all-time against the Red Dragons on the road.
The Lakers close out their season on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 5 p.m. when they travel to play Clarkson.
