P.J. Goodwin (Jr., Baldwinsville, N.Y.) made a diving save to his left, but his teammates made a mistake while trying to clear the ball and sent the ball into the corner of the net for the only goal of the game.
The first half was evenly played with each team taking six shots as the No. 8 (Oswego State) and No. 10 (Oneonta State) ranked teams in the NSCAA Division III East regional rankings did battle.
The Red Dragons (4-2-1) were coming off a 1-1 tie to previsously No. 1 ranked team in the nation (Christopher Newport) and used that momentum to gain control in the second half.
Oneonta applied more pressure and outshot the Lakers, 7-3, in the second half after getting the goal less than three minutes into the period.
The Lakers' (5-2-0) best chance to tie came when Ryan Tibbets (So., Liverpool N.Y.) had a line drive stopped by a two-handed leaping save, while Andrew Bordash (Fr., Highland Mills, N.Y.) added the other shot on goal for the Lakers three minutes later.
Oswego State will host another SUNYAC game on Saturday when New Paltz (4-4-1) pays a visit for a 1 p.m. kick-off.
